4 Must-Haves in a Modern Master Bedroom

The bedroom is no longer just a room for retiring to at night to go to sleep; it can now be an escape haven. Our hectic, contemporary lives are such that we are time-poor, forever running around, attending to the needs of others and acting as taxi drivers on weekends, ferrying kids from one sport to the other. There is no ‘me’ time or downtime, and sometimes you just need somewhere to retreat to and experience the small luxuries in life when all is quiet in the house … or not so quiet. So rather than term these adult spaces as master bedrooms, a more appropriate name should be the ‘main bedroom suite’, because just like hotel suites, you want these spaces to transport you to another world; a world that reflects the individual personality of the occupants. Therefore, there is no right or wrong layout for the main bedroom suite but rather core ingredients that allow you to experience your own private oasis. So what are these core ingredients and how have they evolved?

1. A room with a view
There are times when a master bedroom layout is dictated by one key attribute, and in the case of this master bedroom (within the same house as above), that key attribute is a panoramic view of the water beyond, which spans two entire walls. With limited wall space, the inclusion of furniture beyond the bed itself is not possible. However, the designers have been creative in incorporating a pop-up TV at the end of the bed that stores away when not in use and can act as both a seat and storage unit without inhibiting the view.

2. A private bath
The introduction of a private bath or ensuite as opposed to sharing one with the rest of the house is now a common appendix to all master bedrooms. They are for the private use of the room’s occupants only, and can be lavish or simple, large or small. They can also be hidden or transparent within the room. The bedroom reflects the individual personality of the homeowners and provides an idyllic, stress-free environment away from the chaos beyond the bedroom door.

3. Wardrobe
A key component in the design of any master bedroom layout is the inclusion of a cupboard for your clothing. Once freestanding pieces of furniture that could be moved anywhere within the room, they now form part of the built-in joinery. Generally located against one wall, they incorporate storage space usually reserved for the dresser and other pieces of furniture, and allow for vertical hanging and even a compartment for the TV unit. Almost anything can be stored and purpose designed. It fundamentally eliminates an array of furniture pieces and de-clutters a room.

4. Work space
If you’re a night owl an you work at ungodly hours when the whole house is asleep, sometimes comfort can be gained by working in an area annexed to your master bedroom and not far removed on the other side of your home. Lights can be dimmed in the main bedroom suite while you are busy at work and not disturbing anyone else.

Beautify your Home with Beautiful Memories

Some memories are simply etched in your mind, though they become past, their essence remain with us forever. Whether they are great old family memories, memorable travel tales or sweet love stories, all are just unforgettable experiences of our life. Though these moments are remembered every now and then, if you show up it in your surroundings, you might feel as if you are reliving those memories. We human-beings also have memories attached with things like first watch gifted to you by your father or dining table purchased from your first salary. Years have passed, you have totally renovated your home, but feeling sad there is no space for your memorable dining table? Well memories will always find a room to survive. We have a found a way to keep your memories alive.

Well if memories can be relived, then certainly it won’t be called as memories. However if you can’t experience it again, you can probably make it part of your home décor and cherish it. Home is a place where you spend most of your time and when you see memories in front of your eyes, the living space becomes more refreshing and lively.

Display your star studded family:
When it comes to memories, family and loved ones are first recalled. Memories are incomplete without them. Displaying family photos is common home adornment idea but instead of using the typical photo frames, you can think something out of the box.
Why don’t you flaunt your star studded family in a star patterned theme? You can think creative and prepare a beautiful wall art by placing the photos with deigned papers on spokes and create star shape theme. You can place this on entryway. This will make you feel delighted and blessed whenever you enter your home.

Collected pieces of memories:
The shells collected from the sea-shore, the collection of coins when you first visited some foreign country, the stamps or marbles which you gathered during your childhood, are these memories locked in box or lying on the loft packed in some trunk. Is this the right place to keep your valuable memories? Certainly not. These memories can be splashed in a much charming and creative way. Instead of locking it, you can use these small memories to decorate your living space. The seashells collected can be placed in a glass container with some sand. This will look classy home décor piece. You can hang the sand dollar or shell with a thin rope, outside the jar and write on it the travel location from where you collected to make it look more memorable. You can also create beautiful coin craft by sticking it around vase or beautifully frame it on wall.

The lyrical décor:
Do you remember the first song dedicated to you by your wife or the first romantic poem written to you by your husband? How romantic were those days!! Most of the couples complain that after years of marriage, the romance gets somewhere lost, however you can still keep the love blossoming by etching these lyrical love. Handwritten songs or poems framed beautifully as wall art or table piece will evoke the romance again among the couple and take them back to the good old days.

Want to Make Your Small Kitchen Feel Bigger?

We be willing to bet that when you think about your dream kitchen, it doesn’t include the word “tiny.” Yet that’s the reality that many of us live with: Skimpy counter space, a cramped work triangle and precious little space for appliances. If you’re not ready – or willing – to knock out a kitchen wall, you can at least do the next best thing –create the impression of a bigger space with a few strategic decorating tricks.

1. Replace solid cabinet doors with glass ones
Glass fronts lighten the look of cabinetry and allow the eye to travel through to the back, which helps the kitchen seem more expansive. Just don’t clutter the interiors with bric-a-brac – you’ll defeat the purpose.

2. Paint cabinets the same colour as the walls
Limiting the cabinetry and the wall colour to a single hue erases visual boundaries that might stop the eye. The conventional school of thought is that pale colours will reflect light and make the space feel bigger, and that’s certainly a safe approach. But don’t be afraid to go dark, either. Deep tones such as black, navy, charcoal and chocolate recede visually and create the impression that the walls are farther back than they really are.

3. Choose furnishings with a small footprint
Select petite islands, slim chairs, streamlined stools and narrow tables that don’t eat up valuable floor space. Avoid chunky furniture legs or thick bases, which add visual bulk.

4. Recess storage
Tuck a pantry, shelving or cabinets flush with the wall to keep from obstructing the kitchen’s flow. It’s fairly easy to retrofit a recessed niche, especially if you orient it between wall studs.

5. Design with clean lines
Big corbels, ornate cabinetry and fussy details can make a kitchen feel chopped up. Instead, keep the elements tailored and sleek to smooth out the look and create a roomier feel.

4 Ways to Maximise Under-Bed Storage

When was the last time you delved under the beds in your home to see what was lurking under there? Could there be a monster hiding under your child’s bed? Or are you more likely to find some dust bunnies and half a dozen pairs of lost socks? Whether you have a bedroom with heaps of storage, or not a wardrobe in sight, maximising under-bed storage is a great way to increase functionality in your bedrooms, and keep the space tidy.

1. Clear it out
You may dread it, but the first step to maximising the hidden space under your bed is to clear out anything that has become hidden underneath the bed by accident. Pull the bed out form the wall and grab a garbage bag, because in my experience 90 percent of what you find under a bed is rubbish that has slipped under there and never been picked up. You may find the odd piece of clothing too, so pop them straight in the wash.

What you’ll also find, regardless of how much clutter is under there, is that beneath your bed is very dusty. This is normal and is the case in every home, so grab the vacuum and give it a good clean before putting the bed back into position.

2. Decide what’s going back in
Now that you have a clear and clean space under the bed, let’s talk about what you might actually want to store in this space.

The ideal is to store things under the bed that you don’t need to access every day. You also want to store things under there that are easy to pull in and out as needed.

3. Buy suitable containers
Once you’ve decided what you’ll keep under the bed, you can then invest in some suitable storage. There are some great under-bed storage solutions on the market that are the full width of a single bed, and therefore maximise your storage space. You want to focus on using containers that are lightweight and easy to grab and pull out when you need them, especially if they’re being used under children’s beds.

If you’re tempted to skip the containers and just store things loosely under the bed, we’ll just remind you of the amount of dust you vacuumed up when you started this job. You’ll also find that without containers, the mess under the bed will be impossible to control. Containers give you limits and also create a way to easily access what you are storing under there.

4. Use it well
When you come across items that now belong in your under-bed storage, the temptation when you’re in a rush will be to put items on top of the container rather than take 30 seconds and put it inside. Make a decision to do the job well and it will ensure items avoid getting dusty; you’ll also keep the space organised rather than letting it return to clutter.

Dining Room Design Ideas to Make It Look More Attractive

Dining room design can have a big impact on your everyday dining experience. Dining room is not only the space where families eat their meals but do multiple activities. This is the place where we eat, chat with our loved ones and sometimes even work. For many it is the space where many important family discussions happen. Thus, you have to be meticulous while choosing the dining room design for your home. Whatever may be your budget, room, size or style, any of these handpicked dining room designs ideas would certainly match your needs. Hope, these design ideas would help you in designing your dining room and create a unique space for you and your family.

Trestle Table

This is one of the famous dining room design ideas and these tables have successfully been in fashion since the middle ages. These trestle tables can be seen in the medieval coat of arms. Apart from adding an elegant and vintage look, they are also perfect for social gathering.

Blue and White

While you design your dining room, use the blue and white combination to decorate it. This color combination gives a rich and brighter look to your dining room. Further, this timeless palette was used way back in ancient Persia. To get this design, you have to choose pottery, linens and other decorative items in blue and white combination. Again it is an ever green dining room décor and would never go out of style.

Farmhouse Feel

If you have a big space for dining then this look is for you. To bring in a farmhouse like feel inside your home, you can get a big trestle dining table that can accommodate 14 members. This could be the perfect pick for holidays and family get-togethers. With pendant lights and a functional potbelly stove, this would certainly bring in a traditional farmhouse feel. This dining room design will best suit the spacious villas and bungalows. Thus, you can ignore this idea if you have smaller space, as it will occupy most of your space. Also, for this look to be a hot try and bring in as much natural light as possible inside the dining space. If your dining room opens into a balcony or a terrace or a green space then it’s a bonus.

Natural Lighting

The more sunlight you get the more beauty it adds to your home. Your dining room would look spacious if you get natural lighting in your home. It would be great to have your food with an excellent view of the lush landscape from the window. And, you can use wooden table, shelving unit and wicker chairs to enhance the beauty of your dining room. Imagine having your morning tea or coffee in this naturally lit dining room of yours. Doesn’t it take you back to the relaxed vacation home you loved?

Use a Bench Instead of Chairs

When you have too many guests at home, you can’t make everyone sit with the limited chairs available at your home. So, you can buy an antique bench with cushion in your dining room. Apart from accommodating more members, it will make your dining room design look spacious, as you can tuck these benches under the table when not in use.

7 Tricks to Decorating a Large living Room

It’s easy to pine for a larger space when you are living in a teensy one, but big rooms present some of their own challenges, and that is what we will be tackling today. Whether you live in a loft, have a living room with extremely high ceilings or simply have a lot of space to fill, these 7 ideas can help you make your room feel balanced and comfortable.

1. Strategically place tall potted plants
Fill vertical height in rooms with tall ceilings or fill bare, lonely corners with potted trees. As long as your space gets enough light to support the plant’s needs, you really can’t go wrong with adding a massive houseplant.

2. Paint two-tone walls
While tall potted plants are great for drawing the eye up and accentuating high ceilings, sometimes we crave the opposite effect. Painting colour on your walls only part of the way up creates a cosier feeling, tricking the eye into thinking the ceilings are lower than they are.

3. Use a daybed as a room divider
In a really large living room, you may wish to create two full seating areas. Mark the separation while keeping the flow between the two zones with furniture you can easily see over: A daybed, bench, or chaise is a good option.

4.Define zones with a console table
Another option for sectioning off parts of a large living room is floating your sofa in the middle of the room and placing a

5. Use an L-shaped sectional as a room divider
Another great place for your L-shaped sofa is between two seating areas or dividing the living and dining spaces in an open-plan space.

6. Use occasional chairs
Another great use of surplus wall space is for housing a few extra chairs. A console table between a pair of chairs with a large mirror or artwork above always looks smart, and you can pull the chairs in closer when hosting a large group.

7. Create a second seating area or reading nook
In a large living room, even after filling out a main seating arrangement, there will likely be an odd corner that remains unfilled. If you put as much effort into this corner as into the “main” seating area, it may well become your favourite hangout spot.

Top Myths about Investing in Real Estate that are Actually False

Buying a house is not something we do every day. One may do it once in a few years, once in a decade or two, or even only once in a lifetime. Despite the fact that investing in real estate is not a frequent occurrence for most of us, we generally know how it works, mostly based on our family members’ or friends’ experiences.

We do know that buying a property is indeed a big decision as there are many other things involved before buying a property, apart from the financial investment. However, there are lot of myths that surround the whole real estate concept. We have compiled some of the most common myths, which are completely untrue.

Myth 1:
You need luck to be successful in real estate investment.

Truth:
To be a successful investor in the field of real estate, you need insight, research, and some instinct. No matter whether you are a recurrent investor or a one time buyer, you need to depend on your skills, instinct, and knowledge than on your luck.

Myth 2:
You need lot of cash before buying a property.

Truth:
Of course, you need money to start with, but to buy a property, you need not have the entire cash in hand. You can apply for home loans or invest in pre-launch properties. When you invest in pre-launch homes, you need to give only an initial down-payment to book your apartment or villa, which will be very nominal. Furthermore, these properties will provide you a lot of time to organize your finances.

Myth 3:
There is a good time to buy property, and one should wait for it.

Truth:
“Strike while the iron is hot;” this proverb holds good if you are planning to invest in real estate. Prices of properties are increasing a lot, these days. Therefore, the sooner you invest the better.

Myth 4:
There are not many tax benefits when one invests in a property.

Truth:
Apart from the tax deduction on home loan interest and principal components, there are several tax-efficient ways to buy a home. For example, you will have deduction on stamp duty and registration charges, deduction on interest component, deduction on principal component, etc.

Myth 5:
Eco-friendly homes are expensive.

Truth:
Investing in eco-friendly homes add hardly 10% to the original cost, which also could be recovered over time. Alternatively, you can customize your homes to environment-friendly after buying. Furthermore, setting up terrace gardens and maintaining them are quite inexpensive.

Myth 6:
Ready-to-occupy homes are comparatively expensive.

Truth:
If bought from a credible builder like Dedhia, ready-to-occupy homes are affordable and rightly priced. In fact, ready-to-occupy homes have several benefits like tax exemption, rental savings, limited risks, price appreciation, etc.
