5 Areas to Go Bold With Burgundy

Aren’t you bored of the grey and beiges on your walls? Doesn’t everyone’s home nowadays share a similar colour palette and everything just looks the same? Make your home stand out from the rest by using a bold, accent colour – our suggestion to you is to consider the unconventional burgundy. There is a richness to this colour; it brings in not only the opulent feel that we love for our homes but also goes very well with traditional as well as modern materials like wood and metal. So take a chance and see the ways in which you can bring in this colour to your interiors.

1. On the ceiling
Paint your ceiling and let it stand out. This is also a great way to demarcate a separate zone in an otherwise large space. The warmth of burgundy combining wonderfully with dark wood. Some combination can lead to a bit of a dark ambiance, so make sure there is plenty of direct and indirect light to balance the space.

2. Create a focus wall
Introducing an accent wall in burgundy is an easy way to make a strong style statement. Select a wall which immediately catches the eye and make it the focal point. Either paint it or introduce a wallpaper. Go a step further to bring in prints and patterns which you otherwise can’t paint. Try gold leaf, paisley wallpapers for the quintessential Indian look. Photo frames or some pieces of art in neutral colours will do wonders on such an accent wall.

3. Introduce it in the upholstery
There are many options when it comes to introducing burgundy in your furnishings. But make sure this is done in small doses, as heavier the colour, the more visual space it takes up, making the room look smaller. Bring in this colour through sofa upholstery, cushion covers or drapery. There can just be a hint of burgundy along the cushions or on the tassle of the curtain. You just need a little bit of burgundy to lift up a space.

4. Roll the carpet
Burgundy is an attention grabbing hue. You can also introduce it in the form of a carpet or coloured tiles. It will certainly be a unique way to do your floors. Just as bringing in this colour on the ceiling demarcates a space – burgundy on the floor achieves the same effect. This is especially handy when you have a large space and are trying to create different zones. This colour can also provide a good anchor to the neutral elements in a room and bring them all together.

5. Use it as a kitchen backsplash
A burgundy backsplash in the kitchen seems to give a very comforting message – that you have all the chaos created here, under control. This colour goes well with light browns, whites and charcoal greys that usually dictate our kitchens. It is also good at hiding stains. You can also alternate this colour between the kitchen drawers and the cabinets.
